Nutritionist Avni Kaul shares that while there are foods like natural vegetables, seasonal fruits, lean protein that boost the body’s immune system, there is also a certain diet that damages our body’s virus and germs fighting abilities. These foods are:-

  1. Cola

While all forms of artificial sugar pose a threat to the human immune system, sugar-laden soda is perhaps the worst culprit.  In addition to being loaded with sugar, colas often contain phosphorus, which causes the depletion of calcium from the cells through the kidneys. Since calcium plays an essential role in the activation of cells in the immune system, low calcium means lower immunity. Hence during your upcoming parties, try not to drink colas or even cocktails that are mixed with soft drinks, if you want your immune system to stay strong.

  1. Artificial Fruit Juices

During a party, if you are a fan of mixing vodka with cranberry or orange artificial fruit juices, then try to skip this drink in the current pandemic time because just like colas ,artificial fruit juices too are laden with artificial sugar that severely damages our immune system.

  1.  Beer and Wine

Overindulgence in Beer and wine can also damage the body’s immune system and can increase susceptibility to infection as excess alcohol interferes with the normal functioning of all aspects of the adaptive immune response. It increases the stress hormone cortisol, blood sugar, and insulin, and all three can negatively impact immune function when elevated.

The effect includes an increased susceptibility to pneumonia and a greater likelihood of developing acute respiratory stress syndromes (ARDS)—factors that could potentially impact COVID-19 outcomes.

  1. Chinese Food with MSG

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a flavor enhancer commonly added to Chinese food, canned vegetables, soups, and processed meats.

Recent studies indicate that eating foods containing MSG can damage the functioning of the thymus and spleen, both of which are key players in the body’s immune function. Both thymus and spleen create lymphocytes, which destroy foreign invaders; while the spleen also makes antibodies that help keep you well.

  1. Fast Food

We all know fast food is loaded with artificial sugar and bad fat.  Missing fibers in your diet are bad for your body too. The consequences of regular consumption of a commercially made burger or pizza can damage the body’s immune system. Hence refrain from eating fast food as much as possible not only during the upcoming parties but for the rest of our life.
